Park Bom Emerges as Reality Show Rookie in “Roommate”… Where Have You Been So Far?

어저께TV-룸메이트-예능샛별-박봄-어디-있다-이제-왔니

An unprecedentedly new character for a reality show has appeared. Girl group 2NE1’s member BOM is the rookie. BOM’s naturally unique and characteristic words and behaviors gave a strong presence to her, in a reality show.

BOM let off her whimsical charm, playing all over the house for SBS’s new reality show “I Love Sunday-Roommate” (“Roommate”), which was first aired in the afternoon on the 11 this month. At first, BOM was rather shy, but soon, the shyness was just gone. In only one episode, BOM successfully created her own character for a reality show and boasted a big presence in the weekend reality show.

BOM was the whimsy itself from the time she gets up until the time to go to bed. Before going to sleep, she put a sticker that helps blood circulation on like an accessory and sprayed mist that is known to reduce the size of the face. She shared her blood circulation sticker with Park Min Woo, who woke up in the middle of the night. Plus, even though it was the first time for BOM to stay in the house, she spread her bedding in the family room without any hesitation. Unlike the charismatic BOM on the stage, BOM in the house was like a different person, being innocent and girly.

BOM’s special presence continued even after she woke up in the morning. She bit into bread upon getting up and committed herself to eating it. After finishing the bread, she just went back to bed. BOM was so different from other women appearing in the show, who were busy dolling themselves up from early in the morning, and her peculiar behavior made a lot of viewers of the show laugh.

Moreover, BOM looks like a shy girl, but she did not hesitate to say her piece. She asked Shin Sung Woo, a member in charge of cooking, about whether he “had an intention to shave himself”. Eventually, BOM made Shin Sung Woo, the oldest member among the family, shave off his mustache and beard that he had maintained for five years.

Nana said, “BOM is the one who sees things eye to eye with me the most. I think she is a kind of person who is not normal. I’m like her, too”. Just as Nana said, BOM was something more than peculiar and unique.

BOM has not appeared in reality shows that much so far. She has made short appearance in reality shows as a guest, but she has been walking a path different from that of other idol stars who usually build their recognition by appearing in reality shows. That is why BOM’s appearance in “Roommate” drew a big attention even before the beginning of the show.

However, BOM’s potential talent for a reality show has been well-known among 2NE1 fans, because she has shown her whimsy in a cable channel’s reality show, etc. Now, in reality show of both cable and national terrestrial broadcasting network, BOM is showing an outstanding and unequaled character for a reality show.

Notably, the reason why BOM’s words and behaviors are lovely enough to make viewers wear a smile on their faces is because she shows her unmannered innocence. She does not overreact to make viewers laugh or to create her own character in the show. She just disclosed what she is to the viewers, in an uncolored way and that made the viewers of the show make a delighted smile.

Meanwhile, “Roommate” is a reality show with a new concept of “home sharing”, a new trend of residential pattern, in which a person shares his/her live with others in one space. Shin Sung Woo, Lee Sora, Lee Dong Wook, Hong Soo Hyun, Jo Se Ho, BOM, Nana, Song Ga Yeon, CHAN YEOL, Seo Gang Joon, and Park Min Woo appear in the show.

20140514001203_0

On SBS’ “Roommate” episode aired on Sunday, Park Bom revealed her beauty secrets: using a particular brand of thermal water spray frequently and sticking “meridian stickers” on her ears.

Meridian stickers are known to help the circulation of blood by stimulating acupuncture spots with sharp points attached to the sticker.

“Spraying this helps you get a smaller face,” Park said on the show, referring to the water spray. “Many of my actor and actress friends use this.”

Later, Park was spotted sharing the thermal water spray with Shin Sung-woo and Park Minwoo.

As Park’s beauty secrets were aired, Park, meridian stickers and the thermal water spray took over Korea’s major Internet browser. Internet users eagerly hunted down places to find the brand of thermal water spray, now known as “baby face water.”

The website of the skin spa that sells the thermal water spray was down for a few hours due to high traffic. Currently the spray is out of stock.

SBS Entertainment seems to have gotten a fresh beginning with their newest activities of variety programs.

SBS broadcast entertainment programs have recently started to emerge as new variety shows, usually the first calculations of them have all turned wrong after airing the episodes of the programs, instead of negative reviews like netizens calculate before the actual airing, SBS has gained lots of positive reviews after the shows went on air.

‘’SBS Roommate’’ which premiered on the 4th of May after a two week delay has gained a hot response with the eleven celebrities living together in one house. In particular the most eye-catching we’re Park Bom and Seo Kang Jun, the newbies of the variety industry. Only after two episodes SBS aired of ‘’Roommate’’, Park Bom and Seo Kang Jun have stolen many hearts of watchers and are being named the ‘’face’’ of the program.

2NE1’s Park Bom entertains with just her 8-dimensional personality while Seo Kang Jun stole many their hearts with his innocence and witty side.

On the 11th, the second episode was broadcasted and many had laughs after watching Park Bom who didn’t seem to be bothered with the 60 cameras around the house as she was seen in her bed, comfortably eating bread and falling asleep right afterwards. Not only that, she has been entertaining watchers every minute she comes on screen.

Her segment didn’t just end like that; she managed to cut off Shin Sungwoo’s beard who kept it tidy and alive for five years. Along with that she’s been seen with mist spray she sprayed everywhere on her face and convinced Park Minwoo that it helps to make the face look smaller. After School’s Nana who is also on the show commented that ‘’Unni (Bom) is just like me, it seems that we’re both not normal’’ expressing her feelings towards Bom on ‘’Roommate’’ which also led to laughter.

Along with Park Bom, Seo Kang Jun has also been delivering laughs with his innocent witty behaviour. The males of ‘’Roommate’’ went to greet the neighbors as well as getting their helicopter back they played with the night before and Seo Kang Jun convinced everyone he would handle it perfectly with his English skills he developed after studying in Malaysia, however when the actual situation happened rather than English, Seo Kang Jun introduced us to his ‘’konglish’’ getting laughs from viewers as well as castmates.

These two so far are the most anticipated even before ‘’Roommate’’ aired. 2NE1’s Park Bom didn’t surprise many since her 8-dimensional character was already introduced to fans through the reality program ‘’2NE1tv’’ which had gained great popularity especially Park Bom who gained the most with her unique cute personality.

[Something about Bae Sung Jae I don’t quite understand sorry^^]

Park Bom, Seo Kang Jun and Bae Sung Jae are three people many should look out for in the variety world, and the thing the three have the most in common is their sense of variety they portray in a natural way which brings laughter to the watchers.

Happy 5th Anniversary, 2NE1! 5 Must-See Music Videos From the K-Pop Phenoms

2ne1_do_you_love_me_mv_kpop_650-430

In May 2009, Psy’s record label YG Entertainment debuted a four-member girl group 2NE1. Consisting of CL, Bom, Dara and Mizny, 2NE1 instantly made waves for easily pulling off unconventional tracks. The quartet mixed hip-hop and dance, blended diva belts with quick-spit rapping, each single always accompanied by an incredible visual.

To celebrate 2NE1′s half-decade together, Billboard takes a look back at five must-watch videos from the girl’s YouTube channel. There’s a reason the K-pop quartet have earned more than half a billion views, take a look at five below.

5 “Fire” (2009)

“Fire” was the first taste of what would become 2NE1′s signature YouTube presence: Over-the-top visuals, a fierce sound and automatic playback appeal. “Fire” opens with leader CL donning futuristic, LED-display sunglasses before the pulsing synths and rumbling percussion kick in. With costumes that straddled the line of sexy and bizarre — see CL’s cutout catsuit, Bom’s Playboy-bunny look — 2NE1 shone not only for their fearless video style, but as a fun alternative to the glamorous and cutie-pie female acts.

4  “Do You Love Me” (2013)

While 2NE1 has delivered top-notch, expensive visuals throughout their half-decade together, last year’s “Do You Love Me” is remarkable for being the antithesis to it all. No ridiculous sets or costumes, just the girls goofing off at a pool party, in the car and inside a club. Filmed with its Instagram-esque filter, it felt like the viewers were hanging right there with the band.

It was a fun, rare experience for fans to see the quartet stripped of the gloss and display their personalities at the forefront; a smart move given 2NE1 boasts four truly distinct characters.

3 “Can’t Nobody” (2010)

When “Can’t Nobody” hit YouTube in 2010, fans saw 2NE1 up their swagger to the next degree. The visuals were more detailed (CL sporting animal print in her hair, dope graffiti), the fashion was crazier (Minzy’s skeleton bandana, Dara swimming in an ocean of cloth) and the sets made you wonder “How’d they film that?” (see the shots where the girls play to camera while riding and down a flashy slide).

It also felt like we could get to know the members’ personalities more, like further solidifying Minzy as the ferocious booty shaker, CL as the charismatic, badass leader and Dara as the enigmatic beauty whose shy demeanor does a 180 in front of the camera.

2 “Missing You” (2013)

Again in 2013, the outfit revealed their softer side via this winter ballad single. The gorgeous, simple styling of the vid showcased sophistication with just the right amount of the group’s signature edginess (face stickers, unconventional hair styles, neon animal print) needed to make it a true 2NE1 video.

While 2012 electro-ballad “I Love You” also ranks high on 2NE1′s top visuals, the simplistic style of “Missing You” trumps for making an emotionally jarring experience. The climax of the video undoubtedly when CL bares all for the camera, covering herself with only her arms and legs, as a stunning visual metaphor for the track’s stirring raw sentiment. All or nothing, right?

1 “I Am the Best” (2011)

Throughout all the looks, styles and sound, none seem to define 2NE1 as much as “I Am the Best.” The visual to what might arguably be their signature song has more than 90 million views on YouTube — one of the most viewed K-pop videos ever. Utilizing everything from animals and cars to dominatrix catsuits and straitjackets, it all screamed “Fierce fierce fierce!”

If the “Fire” video was the initial promise to fans that 2NE1 would always bring it visually, “I Am the Best” is perhaps the girls’ best fulfillment of that…so far. And the girls smashing their own platinum records with baseball bats on third chorus seems to indicate that there are even more boundaries for them to push. Here’s to another five years of even more insane visuals.

The celebration for 2NE1′s anniversary continues: Stay tuned to Billboard’s K-Town for exclusive interviews with 2NE1 where the girls discuss top moments from their career, what’s next and more coming soon!

Billboard: “2NE1 Embraces Pop Art in ‘Gotta Be You’ Video”

The record-breaking K-pop quartet sing and rap amid references to Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein

Following a pair of fierce videos initially revealed when 2NE1 dropped theirrecord-breaking “Crush” album, the K-pop phenoms have followed up with a visual for new single “Gotta Be You,” showcasing the girls singing and rapping through a pop-art world.

As usual 2NE1 deliver on the visual front, overloading viewers with ferocious fashion (see CL and Bom’s zombie-inspired dresses), hair, makeup and accessories that scale the color spectrum. While the vid is filled with glamour shots, there is a key point where CL gets drenched inside a car wash that is less a wet T-shirt contest turning on the camera and more about embracing the longing lyrics of the track.

The girls mix the song’s sentimental subject of being in love with someone despite them giving up on the relationship inside a bright, pop-art world. There are references to Roy Lichtenstein comic books, Andy Warhol’s “Brillo Boxes”, along with splashes of graffiti, emoticons and neon throughout the video sets. Despite every punch of color, the girls never crack a smile making for a fascinating, juxtaposed visual.

Sonically, “Gotta Be You” lets 2NE1 flex their mix-mastering skills to blend a new genre of synthy dance-pop into their rap/EDM formula. Like a majority of the tracks of the new LP, the snappy song highlights each girl’s unique timbre and, most notably, lets youngest member Minzy vocally rip on the chorus alongside main vocalist Bom.

“Gotta Be You” originally peaked at No. 4 on the K-Pop Hot 100 and No. 16 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart. The video should give the “Crush” LP additional longevity and breathe a bit of new life for it on the charts.

Previous to the official video, fans had only seen the song brought to life on the live stage via their Asian tour dates and TV performances. Watch one below:

2NE1 Members are Jealous of Bom’s “Roommates”?

2NE1

It seems like the members of 2NE1- CL, Dara, and Minzy- are starting to miss Bom now that she’s spending more time at the sharehouse for the show “Roommate.”

On the May 25 broadcast of the SBS Good Sunday show, the girls of 2NE1 got to say how they feel about Bom being in the show.

Dara followed Bom around and said that whenever the girls meet, all that Bom talks about is “Roommate.” CL shared her sentiments too, saying, “There wasn’t a time that she took care of us. But she said that she has to do things for the members of ‘Roommate’.” To this, Bom quickly explained, “It’s because I’m representing 2NE1.”

Dara added more fuel to the fire (and fun) by saying, “She even gave blood circulation stickers to the ‘Roommate’ members!,” which startled CL even more. Earlier in the show, Bom gave her roommate Park Min Woo a blood circulation sticker which she puts on herself as well to help with blood circulation.

Hope the girls of 2NE1 aren’t sad and jealous of the roommates anymore. Remember, Bom is doing this for the group!
